Hush, mixed media installation, 2016
The visceral / elusive effects of power structures in language, media, politics, and history on the body and it’s representation provides the impetus for my works. I examine the relationships between legislative language and the body, the effects of cultural norms on the body, and the function of nostalgia on the body. The work aims to synthesize a visual account of the nature of influence and power itself through the use of abstraction, humor, and puckish play. The works take form as sculptures, installations, drawings / paintings and videos, and often juxtapose items of individual or collective significance with subversive forms / observations.
